In short: this website sets no analytics or advertising cookies and requires no registration. Controller

This website is a free gross-to-net salary calculator for Germany. The controller within the meaning of Art. 4(7) and Art. 13(1)(a) GDPR is the person or company operating this service. The full identity of the controller – name, postal address at which legal service can be effected, and any register details – is not yet published; it will match the details in the imprint. For all data-protection matters the controller can be reached at info@desymphony.com.

A data protection officer must be appointed under § 38 BDSG only in defined circumstances – for example above a certain number of people constantly engaged in data processing, or where extensive special-category processing takes place. For a small, static calculator with no such processing, appointing a data protection officer is most likely not required. Should this assessment change with actual operation, a data protection officer and contact details will be named here.

What data is processed

Using the calculator requires no sign-up. Your entries – such as gross pay, tax class or social-insurance details – are processed only locally in your browser to compute the result. They are not transmitted to a server, not sent to us, and not stored permanently. We therefore collect nothing that directly identifies you – not your name, your tax identification number, your email address or the specific amounts you enter. This is not a promise about a setting; it follows directly from how the site is built: the calculation happens on your device.

As with the operation of any website, the hosting provider, acting as a processor (Art. 28 GDPR), may temporarily process technical connection data in server logs – typically the shortened IP address, the browser type, the operating system, the page requested and the time of access. This processing is necessary for secure, stable and attack-resistant operation. The log data is not used to identify individual visitors and is not combined with other data sources.

Server-log retention period: the specific retention window for logs at the hosting provider will be added before launch (Art. 13(2)(a) GDPR); it is governed by the period necessary for secure operation.

Purpose and legal basis

Processing is governed by the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the German Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). For the individual operations:

Operating and securing the website (server logs) – the legal basis is the legitimate interest in a functioning, secure and stable service under Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR.
Calculations in the tool – no processing by us takes place here: your entries never leave your device, so there is no processing of personal data on our side.
Analytics and advertising (only after launch, see below) – the legal basis would be solely your consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR in conjunction with § 25 TDDDG. It is voluntary and can be withdrawn at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR).

Cookies

This website sets no analytics or advertising cookies – wherever you are. The measurement it carries runs cookieless, because the consent baseline is denied for everyone and no consent banner is integrated that could change it. A small, technically necessary entry in your browser’s local storage remembers whether you dismissed the notice pointing to another available language; that is not a cookie and not an identifier. On an ordinary visit that is the only one. A second flag — our exclusion for internal visits — is written only if a page is deliberately opened with ?internal=1 appended; the cookies page names it in full.

Whether analytics and advertising cookies are set does not depend on where you are: the technical baseline is the same, denied, for every visitor worldwide (Google Consent Mode v2, with no region key). Cookies would only ever be set after an explicit consent action (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR together with § 25 TDDDG); absent such an action the cookieless baseline stays in place regardless of which country you access the site from. Which cookies are used and how to manage or withdraw your consent are described on the cookie policy page. You can also delete or block cookies at any time through your browser settings.

Analytics and advertising

Reach is measured with Google Analytics 4. An advertising network is not integrated – no advertising is served. The analytics tag is provided by a third party, Google LLC (USA); each page view transmits connection data to Google, including your IP address, the address requested and details of your browser. A transfer to a third country (the USA) is therefore involved; Google relies for this on the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. The same behaviour applies to every visitor worldwide – not differentiated by location: analytics and advertising signals stay denied (Google Consent Mode v2, with no region key), and since no consent banner is integrated, they remain so. The tag therefore runs in cookieless mode: it stores and reads no identifier on your device, measures only in aggregate, and personalises nothing. None of this affects how the calculator works. The controller does not control the content of third-party advertising and is not liable for its accuracy.

No automated decision-making

There is no decision based solely on automated processing – including profiling – that produces legal effects concerning you or similarly significantly affects you (Art. 22 GDPR). The calculator provides a non-binding estimate; it makes no decisions about you.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have, in particular, the following rights vis-à-vis the controller:

Access (Art. 15 GDPR) – to learn whether, and which, personal data about you is being processed.
Rectification (Art. 16 GDPR) – to have inaccurate data corrected.
Erasure (Art. 17 GDPR) – to request the deletion of your data.
Restriction (Art. 18 GDPR) – to have processing restricted.
Data portability (Art. 20 GDPR) – to receive your data in a common, machine-readable format or have it transferred.
Objection (Art. 21 GDPR) – to object, on grounds relating to your particular situation, to processing based on legitimate interest.

If you have consented to a processing operation, you can withdraw that consent at any time with effect for the future (Art. 7(3) GDPR), without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before then. Since we ourselves collect no data that directly identifies you, our processing is in practice very limited. For data processed after launch by Google as a third party, you also exercise your rights through Google’s tools (account and ad settings). There is no obligation to provide data: the calculator can be used without registration and without any mandatory field (Art. 13(2)(e) GDPR).

Do not send personal payroll data

Please do not email us personal details from your payslip or salary statement – not your name, your tax identification number or precise amounts. An example in the calculator is enough for a rough estimate: your entries are neither transmitted to us nor stored by us.

Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

Without prejudice to any other remedy, you have the right under Art. 77 GDPR to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority if you consider that the processing of your data infringes data-protection law – in particular with an authority in the Member State of your residence, place of work or the place of the alleged infringement. In Germany data protection is a matter for the federal states; the authority competent for the controller is the state data protection authority of the federal state (Bundesland) in which the controller is based.
