Working out the amount

The monthly pension is the product of four factors (§ 64 SGB VI). Three of them are in the statute or in the annual ordinance; the fourth — your own pension points — is known only to your Deutsche Rentenversicherung statement. This page computes with your figure and never estimates it.

The formula is a product of four factors

§ 64 names them all: the monthly pension is what you get when the personal pension points (already adjusted by the access factor), the pension-type factor and the current pension value are multiplied together. For old-age pensions the pension-type factor is 1,0000 (§ 67 Nr. 1) — carried rather than dropped, because the same formula uses other values for other benefits. The current pension value is 42,52 € and applies for 01.07.2026 – 30.06.2027.

Where your own points are

The one number this page cannot know is your own pension points. They are in the Deutsche Rentenversicherung’s Rentenauskunft: § 109 Abs. 4 Nr. 2 expressly requires it to contain “eine Darstellung über die Ermittlung der persönlichen Entgeltpunkte mit der Angabe ihres derzeitigen Wertes”. The annual Renteninformation is a different document — § 109 Abs. 3 lists what it must contain, and the points are not among them. Anyone who has not yet received a Rentenauskunft can apply for one under § 109 Abs. 1 Satz 3.

We do not estimate that number. A lifetime of pension points is one ratio per calendar year against that year’s average earnings; deriving it from a salary would mean inventing an entire working life and then presenting the result as your pension.

Which pension
Pension begins after completing

The pension starts after the calendar month in which you complete this age — the wording § 36 Satz 2 and § 77 Abs. 2 Nr. 1 both use.

The access factor runs in two directions

§ 77 Abs. 2 Nr. 2 describes one quantity with two limbs. Draw the pension early and the access factor falls 0,3 % below 1.0 for every calendar month (Buchst. a). Leave it undrawn after reaching the standard retirement age despite meeting the qualifying period, and it rises 0,5 % above it per calendar month (Buchst. b). The second limb is the half most often missing from a summary — and § 77 states no ceiling on it.

The reduction is measured back from the pension age that governs you, which is not always the standard age of 67 years: § 77 Abs. 2 Nr. 1 names “the Regelaltersgrenze or a lower pension age applying to the insured person”. The uplift, by contrast, always measures from the standard age — even for a pension whose own age limit is below it.

The result is a gross figure

What the formula yields is gross. Pensioners’ health and long-term-care contributions still come off it, and the pension is taxable income. We state no tax rate — and not only because we did not retrieve the income tax act for these pages: what is taxed is a share that depends on the year the pension first starts. That is a schedule, not a rate, so quoting a rate would be wrong in kind rather than merely unsourced.

What we do not say about future upratings

The current pension value is re-set every year by ordinance; SGB VI itself never carries the figure. The ratio of this year’s value to last year’s (1,0424) gives this year’s uprating of 4,24 %. The ordinance does not publish that percentage — it is derived, and we say so rather than presenting it as a quotation.

How a future year’s value will be arrived at, we do not say. § 68 Abs. 1 multiplies the previous value by three factors: wage growth (Abs. 2), plus a contribution-rate factor (Abs. 3) and the sustainability factor (Abs. 4), both of which damp the result. We did not retrieve those two in full, and describing the uprating as plain wage indexation would overstate it.

There is neither a minimum nor a maximum pension. The widely quoted “maximum pension” figures are a consequence of the contribution ceiling and of an assumed number of years, not an enacted limit.
